5 Ways to Properly Wear and Care for Your Contact Lenses

Contact lenses have enabled millions of people to see clearly without the hassle of wearing eyeglasses. However, if you’re not using your contacts properly, you increase your chances of getting an eye infection.

To prevent painful infections and lasting damage to your eyesight, follow these simple eye care tips.

1. Avoid Buying or Using a Sketchy Pair

Purchase contact lenses from trusted stores even if you’re only going to wear them for aesthetic purposes. Do not buy from costume shops or any store that doesn’t require a prescription. Also, if your contact comes out and you don’t have fresh solution with you, just throw it away.

2. Don’t Sleep in Your Contact Lenses

Never sleep in your contact lenses unless your optometrist tells you otherwise. Remember to give your eyes a break from wearing contacts as well. Always bring a pair of glasses for backup, especially if you’ll be out late.

3. Sanitize Your Contact Lenses

Use only the solution that your doctor has recommended. Never use water or spit to clean your contacts. Also, do not mix fresh solution with used solution. Don’t forget to store your contacts in the contact lens case.

4. Clean Your Contact Lens Case Every Day

It’s important to clean the case every day, too. Rub and rinse it with solution, and dry it using a clean tissue. Moreover, you should replace your contact lens case at least every three months.

5. Take Out Your Contact Lenses Before Swimming

Don’t forget to remove your contacts before swimming, taking a shower or dipping in the hot tub.
