Harry N. Snyder, O.D.

Harry N. Snyder, O.D., FAAO

Dr. Snyder has been in practice in Falls Church for more than 30 years and maintains one of the largest contact lens practices in the area. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and was a pioneer in the co-management of patients undergoing LASIK and other forms of laser eye surgery. Dr. Snyder has served as a clinical investigator in contact lens studies for Johnson and Johnson, Wesley Jessen, Ciba Vision and Bausch and Lomb. He has also served as a Low Vision Examiner for the Virginia Department of the Visually Handicapped. Dr. Snyder received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, and a doctorate and a B.S. in visual science from the Illinois College of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association. Dr. Snyder’s areas of expertise include the difficult-to-fit contact lens patient, geriatrics, low vision, and the co-management of LASIK and other forms of laser vision correction.
   
Hope F. Snively, O.D.

Dr. Snively has been in practice with Dr. Snyder for more than 22 years. She is an alumnus of Boston College and Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO). She has served as a clinical investigator for contacts lens studies for Johnson and Johnson, Wesley Jessen, Ciba Vision and Bausch and Lomb. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association. Dr. Snively`s specialties include contact lenses, the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease and the co-management of laser refractive surgery. As the mother of four, she also specializes in pediatric optometry. Her internships included a rotation in the Lynch Pediatric Unit at the Eye Institute of PCO . Dr. Snively had LASIK in March of 1999 and is currently seeing 20/20.
   
Linda Miller, O.D.

Dr. Miller graduated from St. Francis College with a Bachelor of Science degree as a physician’s assistant. After several years in practice, Dr. Miller earned her doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Following a contact lens internship in the office of Drs. Snyder and Snively, she joined the practice. Dr. Miller has served as a clinical investigator in contact lens studies for Johnson and Johnson, Wesley Jessen, Ciba Vision and Bausch and Lomb. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association. Dr. Miller is experienced in the co-management of cataracts, glaucoma, LASIK and other forms of laser eye surgery. Her specialties include contact lenses, pediatrics and the diagnosis and treatment of anterior segment diseases.
   
Theodora Vroustouris, O.D.

Theodora Vroustouris, O.D.

Dr. Vroustouris was born and raised in Northern Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Science from Old Dominion University and her doctorate from Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Vroustouris completed a residency in primary care at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association. She has received specialized training in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, dry eyes, posterior segment retinal diseases as well as the pre and post operative co-management of cataracts. Dr. Vroustouris is highly experienced in the pre and post-operative care of patients undergoing LASIK and other forms of laser eye surgery.
   
Keith Smithson, O.D.

Keith Smithson, O.D.

Dr. Smithson is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He is a pediatric and sports vision specialist. He is the team optometrist for the Washington Wizards, Washington Nationals and DC United. Dr. Smithson has also served as a sports vision consultant for the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Freedom, Washington Mystics and Nike. He is available for sports vision consultations for serious athletes of all ages who are seeking an extra edge in athletic performance through vision enhancement. He also conducts visual and perceptual therapy for children experiencing difficulty in school, and for adults with computer vision eyestrain or focusing problems. Dr. Smithson is a member of the Sports Vision section of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association.
   
Alfred Galiani, O.D.

Alfred Galiani, O.D.

Dr. Galiani was born and raised in the Northern Virginia area and has been practicing in Crystal City since 1968. He merged his practice with that of Drs. Snyder and Snively in 1995, when the combined practices became Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry. Dr. Galiani received his undergraduate degree from George Washington University and his doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association, with more than 35 years of experience. Dr. Galiani specializes in contact lenses, especially the "difficult to fit" patient. Additionally, his experience in laser corrective surgery has led to an expertise in pre and post-operative co-management for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
   
Sapho Doan, O.D.

Sapho Doan, O.D.

Dr. Doan was born and raised in Northern Virginia. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and her doctorate degree cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Doan received training in ocular pathology and low vision care through her internships at Capital Eye Consultants, the Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital, and the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. She specializes in family practice optometry including contact lens fittings,  the treatment and management of ocular diseases,  low vision evaluations and refractive surgery co-management.    Dr. Doan is fluent in Vietnamese.  She is a member of the American and Virginia Optometric Associations.

Dr. Bloom received a Bachelors of Science degree from Indiana University and her Doctorate of Optometry from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1984.  She completed an internship at Baylor Hospital, specializing in cataract patient care, and completed post-graduate study in the treatment and management of ocular disease.  She has served as a clinical investigator for contact lens manufacturers, evaluating new lens materials, designs and solutions.  Dr Bloom’s specialties include hard-to-fit contact lens patients, management of dry eyes, diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease, and the co-management of laser refractive surgery. Dr. Bloom is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association and the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society.
   
Robert Sparrenberger, O.D.

Dr. Sparrenberger received his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from Western Kentucky University and his doctorate from the Indiana School of Optometry. His specialties include contact lenses, cataract post-operative care, glaucoma diagnosis and management, and family practice optometry. Dr. Sparrenberger has been recognized by Johnson and Johnson for his excellence in contact lens patient care. He was honored as the 2010 Vanguard of the Year by the Virginia Optometric Association. Dr. Sparrenberger is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association. Dr. Sparrenberger currently serves as president for the Northern Virginia Optometric Society.

Dr. Giles, a Pennsylvania native, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Gettysburg College and her doctorate from the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City . Her specialties include the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, the fitting of hard and soft toric/ bifocal contact lenses, LASIK co-management, and general practice optometry. Dr. Giles is a member of the American Optometric Association (including the Cornea and Contact Lens Section) and the Virginia Optometric Association. Dr. Giles currently serves as secretary for the Northern Virginia Optometric Society.

 

 

Michael Diffendall, O.D.

Dr. Diffendall is originally from Pennsylvania and currently lives in Baltimore City. He has been in private practice since 1995 and at Bowie Optometric Group since 2003. He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and did his undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware. His professional interests include ocular allergies, dry eye and ocular disease. He enjoys the challenge of specialty contact lens fitting including management of kerataconus. Dr. Diffendall is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Maryland Optometric Association. He is accepting new patients at the Bowie Optometric Group.

 

 

Sylvia Briceno, O.D.

Dr. Briceno completed a residency in primary care at the Boston VA Medical Center after graduating from New England College of Optometry. Since then, she worked as a clinical professor for NECO at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center. In 2002, Dr Briceno also started working in her own private practice where she specialized in hard to fit contact lenses. Her professional interests include treatment and management of ocular disease, glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration. Dr Briceno, originally from Venezuela, is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia and Maryland Optometric Associations.

 

 

Meghan Cook, O.D., FAAO

Dr. Cook received her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry magna cum laude from St. Olaf College and her doctorate from Indiana University School of Optometry. During her fourth year, she was chosen for both the Feinbloom and Eschenbach Low Vision Awards. She completed a residency at the veteran's hospital in West Haven, CT with a focus on low vision and ocular disease. Dr. Cook provides both low vision assessment and primary eye care for Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, including the Low Vision section.
